2020.12.17

Tokyo, Japan, 17 December, 2020- Prime Minister’s Office of Japan hosted a conference for realizing a carbon neutral society by 2050.

The conference entitled “National Forum on 2050 Carbon Neutrality” was convened to provide representatives from business, academia, and other non-state actors committed to climate action with a platform for discussing how to gather momentum towards 2050 carbon neutrality with government officials including Prime Minister and responsible ministers.

Ms Kahori Miyake, Co-Chair of JCLP (Executive Officer, CSR & Communication, AEON Co., Ltd.) was invited to the conference and conveyed the following points.

    • JCLP calls on the government to set a target of 50% renewable energy in the energy mix by 2030. An ambitious goal of this kind will attract investment from overseas, building a virtuous cycle to achieve a higher growth trajectory.
    • There are increasing risks for Japanese companies to be removed from global supply chains without improved access to renewables in Japan by 2030.
