- Commitment
- In an effort to strike a balance between minimizing environmental impact and maximizing corporate growth, Aeon set out the “Manifesto on the Prevention of Global Warming” in March 2008, which calls for the reduction of total CO2 emissions by 30% by fiscal 2012, compared with the level in fiscal 2006. Aeon is the first Japanese retailer to set a specific numerical target. With a focus on “stores”, “product distribution” and “with our customers” which characterize retail industry, Aeon created 14 project teams across our group companies and drawn up a road map to reduce CO2 emissions with the co-operations of our stakeholders. Under the Manifesto, our missions are to reduce the negative environment impacts of the store facilities and to shift product development and the ways the products are sold to more ecologically friendly manners. We also believe that it is important to build low carbon society with our customers through such efforts as “Bring your own shopping bags campaign”, “In-store collection of recyclable items”, and “Tree planting”. None of the initiatives are, however, accomplished by our company alone. It must be accomplished in conjunction with our customers, business partners and employees. Lastly, we at Aeon strive to achieve management objective which balances low environmental impact and corporate growth also in the rapidly changing Asian countries.ity and actively work with our customers in our capacity as a corporate citizen to come up with ways to resolve issues facing society as a whole. - “Message from CEO/President”
- Climate change is a great threat to the human race, and continues to jeopardize the very foundation of sustainable economic activities. Companies must contribute to resolving this crisis by thinking beyond their own interests, sharing their wisdom and building a joint global vision, and then acting fast to achieve the vision.
The fact that Japan-CLP is starting in Japan has a large significance in itself. I believe IT can contribute greatly to mitigating climate change, and as a leading global IT enterprise, Fujitsu has a large responsibility. Joining Japan-CLP helps to fulfill our responsibility and also promotes the realization of our Medium-Term Environmental Vision, “Green Policy 2020.”
Efforts to create a prosperous, low-carbon society will be more successful as more companies become involved. It is my hope that membership in Japan–CLP grows as more companies learn about the vital significance of this group.

Ricoh Company, Limited
- CEO Name
- President, CEO
Shiro Kondo
- Department
- -
- Introduction
- Ricoh is a leading global manufacturer of office automation equipment. We are providing a wide range of office products including copiers, multifunctional printers with networking capability utilizing high digital technology, besides providing related supplies and services.
- “Message from CEO/President”
- Global environmental problems bring with them enormous risks that are also critical risks for enterprise management. If we delay our actions, society will suffer considerable economic losses. In order to sustain human society and avoid catastrophic economic losses, it is necessary for enterprises and society as a whole to tackle climate changes immediately. Furthermore, in order to accelerate such actions, we must inevitably transform society itself. Although it is almost impossible to promote social transformation through the action of a single enterprise, we believe it makes sense for same-minded corporations to take actions under a “common vision”, and send a positive message to society. In the “Common visions” of the Japan-CLP, there are still some items that our company must make efforts to achieve, but we will do our utmost to meet these targets by various means including the development of environmental technologies.
- Commitment
- A global leader in digital office solutions, Ricoh provides a wide range of office products including copiers, networked multifunctional printers, as well as sophisticated customized service and support. The Ricoh Group considers environmental problems to be one of the most important management issues. As regards the prevention of global warming, we are aiming to reduce the total CO2 emission (including the converted value of 5 gasses) by 87.5% by FY2050, and 30% by FY2020, compared to FY2000. Activities for achieving the above targets comprise the following:
http://ricoh.co.jp/ecology/report/pdf2009/15_16.pdf
・Develop technologies that improve the environmental functions of products and facilitate the use of such products.
・Make suggestions to customers to help them fully enjoy the environmental functions of our products.
・Realize "low carbon manufacturing" through innovation of production processes. ・Reduce CO2 emissions at the procurement stage by making products smaller and their lives longer to promote their recycling..
・Support suppliers in their environmental impact reduction measures.
・Obtain more accurate information on CO2 emissions during the distribution stage, increase distribution efficiency, and promote a modal shift.
At the Ricoh Group we do our utmost to disclose all the information concerning the above activities. Furthermore, we will participate in related discussions on a global level and continue to communicate vigorously with our stakeholders.

TOKYO STEEL MANUFACTURING CO., LTD
- CEO Name
- President
Toshikazu Nishimoto
- Department
- General Affairs
- Introduction
- TOKYO STEEL MANUFACTURING CO., LTD takes pride in its role in protecting the environment through realizing ways to conserve energy and deal with dwindling resources as a recycler of steel scrap, one of the most valuable resources Japan has.
- “Message from CEO/President”
- The data issued by the Ministry of the Environment shows the steel industry is emitting the highest amount of CO2 among all the industries in Japan. In the efforts to reduce CO2 emissions in the manufacturing process of the steel products which are essential for the prosperity of the society, we believe it is one of the most critical and economical choice for the society to have more steel products recycled from the steel scrap via electric furnace steel making method. There is a big difference in the CO2 emissions between two methods, namely making one ton of steel through a blast furnace method emits 2 tons of CO2 but only 0.5 tons by an electric arc furnace method. That means, if we produce the same kind of steel, the CO2 emissions from an electric arc furnace mill are one fourth of a blast furnace mill. In addition to construction-use long products (H beams, Small shapes, Sheet piles, Wire rods and Deformed bars), Tokyo steel now also offers a full complement of flat products (Hot coils, Pickled and oiled coils, Hot dip galvanized coils, Steel plates etc), which had been dominated by blast furnace mills. Our efforts to further promote recycling of steel scraps will result more reduction of CO2 and consequently contribute to prevent global warming.
- Commitment
- Taking action against global warming is the responsibility of our current generations and we must act now to reduce CO2 emissions. Since its foundation in 1934, as one of the companies contributing to the industrial developments of the society, Tokyo Steel has been recycling the valuable domestic resource of steel scrap, through electric furnace steel making method, into a wide range of steel products. And besides being a company which plays an important role in establishing society where wastes are well managed through proper reusing or recycling, we have saved energy and resources thanks to not only the nature of recycling business but also our uninterrupted efforts to conserve energy in our steel making processes as well to realize even more savings. We promise to make our more efforts to further promote recycling of steel scraps in order that we may contribute more reductions of CO2 for the society, and consequently contribute further prevention of global warming.
